Consultations during the Corna Virus Epidemic

During this very difficult time, I would like to assure the patients that our primary role, is to

act as a rock of support and guidance and to allay everyone’s really valid fears and concerns.

There is a lot of misinformation and false news being presented and please use the site as

your reference guide. It will be updated on a daily basis.

I also strongly believe that my patients must not feel abandoned during this time.

To this end, I will provide a guide as to the various types of consultations that will be

available to you, (the patient), during this period.

Types of consultations that will be offered are:

  1. Face-to-face (normal) consultations: in the normal old-fashioned manner. These are 15

minute appointments and will cost R650.

2. Telephonic consultations:

These consultations will involve a discussion over problems that will last around 10 minutes.

They will consist of a short discussion of the problem and options to resolve this problem.

Should a script need to be sent off to the pharmacy, this will be included as part of the consultation.

The cost of this consultation will be R500. Should the consultation last longer than 10 minutes, the charge will be, as if this was normal consultation i.e .R 650.

3. Virtual consultation:

these consultations will be a pre- organised interaction using ZOOM. You will be given a specific time for this conversation and will be called several minutes before it is due to begin

The interaction between yourself and the doctor will follow standard face-to-face consultation procedure using the camera to look at rashes et cetera. The duration of this consultation should be 15 minutes and the normal fee of R650 will apply.

You will be asked to link up to zoom by the receptionist and at a specific time. Please follow the prompts in the program and you will be automatically connected.

You can continue with the consultation in the normal manner.

Both doctors will be available during phase 4 lockdown and will be consulting with patients through the full work day. Normal surgery hours will apply.

In the event that you have symptoms suggestive of having the Covid 19

infection, please advise the receptionist of your concerns:

The following procedure will then be followed :

  • She will then ask you several questions.
  • Once these questions have been answered she will discuss this with the doctor and return

your call within 15 minutes, with the advice as how to proceed.

  • Should your symptoms be suggestive of Covid 19 virus then we would send you to Kingsbury Hospital is drive-through testing centre and ask you to remain at home in self isolation until the result becomes available. We will also schedule a a telephonic consultation with you

Procedure to follow should you suspect that you have a Covid 19 infection:

  • Should your symptoms not suggest that you have had exposure to Covid 19, then we would assess you via a consultation in one of the previous consultation types.
  • Should you be Covid virus -positive, we would actively monitor you at home via virtual consultations on a daily basis.
  • Depending on your risk of comorbidities(other illnesses), you may be sent to the hospital for admission. It is our preference for you to remain at home
  • Please note that the current time, 8 May 2020, the turnaround time for Covid testing result, is around 36 hours.
  • I can assure you that we will phone you as soon as we receive this result.
