Coronavirus Pandemic

During this very difficult time, I would like to assure the patients that our primary role, is to act as a rock of support and guidance and to allay everyone’s really valid fears and concerns.

There’s a lot of misinformation and false news being presented and please use the site as your reference guide. It will be updated on a daily basis.

I also strongly believe that my patients must not feel abandoned during this time. To this end I will provide a guide

Corona virus consultation procedure:

This is designed to provide you with accurate information on this unfolding disaster and to assist you to make rational decisions. It will also provide a method of getting ongoing care from your GP during this lockdown period.

The practice will continue throughout this period, but not in the traditional way. This is due to us not having the correct equipment (Personal protection gear)and thus there will be an increased risk to both the doctor and the patient.

Should you have a priority /non routine problem that requires the attention of a doctor, then please do the following:

A) Call the practice in the normal way, the answering machine will tell you which doctor is available for consultation on that day and how to contact him or her.

B) Please then call that cell number and you will be able to have a telephonic consultation with the doctor. You will be charged a fee for the consult and you will be able to send it to the medical scheme for reimbursement. A reduced fee

Of R500 will be billed to you and you can do an eft as payment.

This service will operate during normal surgery hours only

C) Should your discussion with the doctor be of such a nature, that you must be seen, then you will be given a time to present yourself at the surgery. Please wait in your car until the doctor arrives. You will be called to come into the rooms.

D) Please do not be disturbed if we are wearing a mask and gloves etc.

E) Please try to touch as little areas in the surgery as possible. It is best to keep your hands in your pockets

F) On completion of the examination, you may be given an invoice and asked to do an EFT.

G) You will be given a script and then proceed to the pharmacy to collect your medication. Please wear your hand and facial protective gear, when going off to the pharmacy.

H) You may receive a follow up call from the doctor, several days later to assess your progress.

Renewal Of Prescriptions;

As you know, the law requires you to have a biannual check-up with the doctor. The reason for this is that it is good medicine, to have a regular assessment. Even more importantly, a death certificate cannot be signed if you have not physically seen the doctor within the previous 6 months. This results in even more shock and stress to your loved ones, as this becomes a police case.

Scripts are to be emailed in the normal way to the script line: scripts@drcohen.co.za.

Please do not forget to list the medication, the dosage and frequency, the amount used per month.

I will only be issuing a script for a maximum of 3 months in order to comply with the above requirements Lets hope that the situation will be back to normal by then.

We will email/fax the script to your pharmacy unless it is as below

For schedule 6 scripts eg Ritalin, you will receive a call from one of the staff to make suitable arrangements for you to collect the script.

The payment for the prescription will be in the normal way.

Please allow a 48 hour turnaround time for the above.
