Specialists and Referrals

We have an excellent group of specialists available locally and will refer you onwards should this be necessary.

However, we would like to bring the following practicalities to your attention, prior to your referral.

You will be charged separately by the specialist for appointments and services.
Specialised medical practitioners are often heavily booked and you are unlikely to get an appointment within the first two weeks from the date of enquiry, unless it is an emergency.
Please note that we cannot state your condition to be an emergency unless it truly is, as this would negatively affect the practice’s relationship with the specialist, to the detriment of future patients.
Please ask the specialist to send us a summary of his/her findings. You can also insist that we assist in your operation should you so wish.

Should you need blood tests, we can draw your blood on site, which means you won’t have to visit the laboratory. We will then send the bloods off for testing.
Results take approximately 24-48 hours. However, depending on the tests required it could take longer.
Once 48 hours have passed, feel free to phone for your results. If your results are worrying, the doctor will phone you to discuss the course of action.
Please note that you will be charged separately by Pathcare for the testing of bloods.

Scans, x-rays and MRIs need to be done at the radiologists rooms.
To have scans done you first have to see your GP who will refer you to the radiologist if necessary.
